Hi, that is a bit strange since i also use CURA and an ender3. Have you used the files here (that are thought for SLA printers) or in our build guide ? https://codeberg.org/positionhigh/MicroDexed-touch/wiki/Build-Instructions You can join in our discord chat to figure this out: https://discord.gg/XCYk5P8GzF
I'll check the .stl files in the build-instruction files. I'll update you. Thanks :)
Are you sure you visited the current website ? What you describe sounds a lot like the legacy/gen1 website. The part list is at: https://codeberg.org/positionhigh/MicroDexed-touch/wiki/current-BOM-%28Bill-of-Materials%29-for-MicroDexed-touch and the main Wiki at https://codeberg.org/positionhigh/MicroDexed-touch/wiki/
I apologise, I got frustrated. Can the kumin 3.5 be used? It says no spi? Would that mean we would not have to order the flash chip cuz the screen has one? Can we get one link for all the screws and stuff already bundled or in a cart? If I order from pcbway am I giving my bank info to china? Thx.
Can I get a us or uk link to buy the PCB? I cannot buy from China. Or Germany. The links for the hardware are not in English.
After reading instructions, maybe I'm getting in over my head. The teensy guys are right down the road. I can figure out sourcing screws and such. I cannot order from China. Do you know a link where I could get the PCB completed and from the us or uk? I want this synth! Thx.
Ok slowly creating US sourcelist and Learning. I had asked about the bigger screen because it was listed in the bin link as other looked at. Are you considering a larger screen? I guess no and it has to have the 14? Pin layout on the short end only? Are we limited to the 2.8 size? Still need an answer about PCB source. Thank you.
You can order at pcbway with paypal for example. Maybe there are even more options. About the other questions i am not so sure what you mean - you do not need the flash chip in general, that is only used to play multisamples. If you do not need that, it is not doing anything else. About the screws: I do not have a solution for that and i know it is tideous to get all parts together. Hopefully i can come up with a more convinient solution in the future.
Currently i see no option to offer half-build or full-build devices since that would require a business, electrical and radio emission safety regulations, to be a member in a recycling organisation and other requirements, i can not list all of them. This is a 3 person hobby project and we are working several years on that now. We are not a company.
You could use a larger screen as long it has the same pin out and the Chip is a ILI9341. Others will not work directly. Be aware that all measurements for case size, spacing etc. will not work out if you use any other screen size. I have seen ILI9341 with up to 6 Inch on amazon and on the usual other electronic part suspects.
About an other PCB source, the current short answer is no. I have to add that it is not technically necessary to use the pcb but it is way more convinient to build with it. You could get very far with the Teensy, the PCM5102 , the display and 2 push-encoders and nothing else.
What about thonk? I'm on a waitlist for Plinky over there. They handle all that bizz for Alex/plinky. I didn't see a file for the PCB anywhere? Thank you for everything, you rock!
I was not aware of https://www.thonk.co.uk/. I will look into it asap if it is possible to add our project there. Not sure, what are the requirements, yet.
i registered at thonk but i do not see any option to add a product to their inventory. I just get a customers back end.
i wrote to support how i can place something on their site.
Ordered the teensy. Found a way to order the pcbs. Having extreme difficulty sourcing parts. Spents a couple hours creating shopping cart at reichelt but it didn't save. Arrrgh! This is painful.
Why use headers with pins that have to be cut? There are headers that don't have the pins on that side?
I assume you are working your way through the build instructions. The goal is to get the device heigth smaller so it is not bulkier than necessary.
If you have any idea how to achieve the same result (or better) by a more convinient method, i am open ears :_)
No. I wasn't assuming anything, I'm going to follow your build to the tee but I am learning a lot. Teensy arrived already.
Since you can not use Signal and i missed a lot of functionality i am glad that i can tell you that we started a discord server last night. So you and every other friendly human is invited to chat there with us. https://discord.gg/XCYk5P8GzF
The 24 pin header via your build link is not available. To confirm this is mpe 087-1-024 2.54 mm 12,6 1x24 straight? Also when clicking the link for the low 24 pin sockey I'm getting 10120976 1x32. Are we to cut or snap to 24? And couldn't I use the 8 piece left and cut it to 5 pins for the 967?
Update : the guy you link for teensy have the 24 pin headers but not the 24 pin low socket.
Hello Deeg, i will try to clarify. These low profile sockets are intended to let you swap components / parts as easy as possible without increasing the device height (as far as possible). You could skip them and just solder everything in, without any of these sockets. The low profile sockets i have listed in the BOM have a black plastic part that is 3,9mm in heigth and in total incl. the pins it is 7,5mm in heigth. If you get these low profile sockets in any length, you can easily cut them to the length that is required for it's part. Since the longer ones are not necessarily much higher in price, it will work if you get longer versions of them and cut them as needed.
Yes. I caught those instructions later. I am using phone. I have teensy. I ordered 5102 and flash. PCB order Monday. Shopping for encoders now.
There are nice looking STEC12E 07 ALPS 24 position encoders for 1.80 ea. Would those fit? Is 24 position good, or too fine?
Those encoders are at Reicherts. PCBs are ordered!
please lets move your questions to discord of matrix chat, that is https://discord.gg/XCYk5P8GzF or https://app.element.io/#/room/#microdexed:matrix.org
BOM/Parts List: https://codeberg.org/positionhigh/MicroDexed-touch/wiki/current-BOM-%28Bill-of-Materials%29-for-MicroDexed-touch
And we do have a user chat group, it is very easy to communicate, at least if you can use signal. https://signal.group/#CjQKID8_6_bax5W1WS2rcq7NokgSckC0kxh8uPdo20X_S4hKEhBnZ-9ZbTvMT2vacLZqn92N
Signal is app only and requires access to phone and contacts on Android which is no way.
You do not need to link your contacts to signal. I would say out of all messaging services, signal is the one of the few with the highest privacy, if not the highest. I think it was even suggested to use by Edward Snowden.
Other than that you can use the issue-tracker on codeberg as a way to communicate questions or problems. https://codeberg.org/positionhigh/MicroDexed-touch/issues
I installed signal and it would not open without allowing requirements. Oh yeah, and just where is snoden now?
I am sorry that it is not working for you, i am pretty sure i have skipped the request for accessing contacts and it worked for me. Do you have a suggestion for a better messenger with more privacy without any cost ?
Disqus? That,s what the plinky crowd uses but I'm brand new to it so idk.
Oops I meant discord
i indeed know and used discord a lot in the past, i will think about it. btw the Thonk guys gave me one response but no further input how i can put something on their site. What are they doing, it is just distribution or are they also manufacturing stuff, making pcbs etc. ?
Just distributing I'm sure. I've been on that plinky list a long time and now they also have Jeannie. Both kits are out of stock per chip shortage.
From what i heard, at least Teensy seem to be available again after more than half a year, at least in small quantities.
I got reply from Thonk. They say they are going for complete kits so microdexed currently is not the kind of product, their customers expect to find on their site.
Sourcing parts must be the problem. Speaking of which, I'm finally ready to buy the pcbs on here, but there's a shipping error and the rep is not responding. I heard 31 cities are in lockdown?
Give them 1-2 days, so far i got very quick responses from pcbway. Maybe there is a lockdown but also there might be an holiday we are not aware of.
Ok. Also Reichelt wants 32 for shipping on 14 in goods and so far will not reply to me from last Wed. about something other than DHL. Where else can I find all the low profile headers? I'm in the US.
well at first search this from the UK has the same part number and looks close but the picture is very blury and there are no specs to verify. So it is only a guess: https://uk.misumi-ec.com/vona2/detail/222303413291/?HissuCode=10120972
Allow me the specific question as some have dimensions which are very close. I guess it boils down to plastic height. IF A Y, how much more could the plastic be? Also you mentioned 3.9 with overall length 7.5 making pin length 3.6. . But the manufacturer BKL mentions H3.5 PL 3.3 making OAL 6.8.
After BKL @ Reicherts I've got milk max at digikey then E-Simpo at Ali Express. 5316-0-00-15-00-00-03-0 then. 801-47-010-002000/01200. And maybe another from 3M. E-Simpo has 3.5 and a 5. Too short and too tall? Mill max seems closest.
I guess when manufacturers say "3.5" H it's a class not a spec. I'm going by your measurement but other manufacturers will vary in actual spec anyway. Search low rise headers. Some guy had a shootout even.
I guess when manufacturers say "3.5" H it's a class not a spec. I'm going by your measurement but other manufacturers will vary in actual spec anyway. Search low rise headers. Some guy had a shootout even.
There are a lot 5 h avail but with pins around 2.3 and 2.4. I'm sure that is too short for pin length and probably 1 mm tooH?
Valcon B01-1x14-AG1-G 3.5 h 3.5 pin length. Is .5 mm too short? toby.co.uk sells all the sizes but 24.
I meant .5mm less of course. So OAL 7mm.
The solution to Reicherts shipping's costs is to buy more parts to average it between kits. Still, I want to skip the low 32 pin header that has to be cut cuz that's $4
So the measurements are critical? Can't place $100 order for 5 kits before I know to just pony up the extra.
5 sets of parts from R's will run 126.94 with the 976s and 24 position encoders and shipping. They are out of 24 male pin strip till Nov. Found it elsewhere.
I'm sorry I've been flooding you. You see, this project gives me a life where I had none. I set up a teensy donation for you. Pin intended.
you have so many questions coming up, please lets move it to discord or matrix chat, that is https://discord.gg/XCYk5P8GzF or https://app.element.io/#/room/#microdexed:matrix.org
and please post pictures, if it helps to analyse the problem you are experiencing.
